Dental Assistants work directly with the patient and dentist in chair-side
procedures and perform dental office administrative duties. Apollo College
Dental Assistant program will prepare the student to work as a Dental
Assistant, Front Office Receptionist, or Dental Office Manager in governmental
agencies, private dental practices, and hospitals that include dental health
care.
The program gives the student a complete education in the clinical, laboratory,
and administrative duties of a Dental Assistant. The student will learn about
oral hygiene, the charting and instrumentation procedures involved with
chair-side assisting to the Dentist, terminology, office procedures and office
techniques, insurance forms, and laboratory procedures.
Upon graduation from the program, state x-ray certification is strongly
recommended for Dental Assistants working with a dentist in chair-side
procedures. In most states, testing is administrated by the state in a separate
facility. Upon completion of all classroom instruction and skills training,
students perform learned skills during a 240-hour externship in a Dentist's
office, dental clinic, or other approved dental care facility.

The Medical Administrative Assistant Program includes two broad aspects. The
first encompasses secretarial skills, manual office systems, and an
introduction to microcomputers. This phase of the program includes; medical law
and ethics, medical terminology used in professional practice, essential office
skills, and areas of medicine critical to office practice. The second phase of
the program teaches the knowledge and skills to master computer software and
systems commonly used in medical practice. The student will develop proficiency
in word processing, accounting methods, spreadsheets, and database management.
Graduates of this program are prepared to manage manual and automated front
office operations for single and multilevel practices. Students also learn the
administrative assistant skills that will make them valuable members of any
office team and will allow them flexibility to work in a variety of office
operations in health care or business settings.

examine and treat patients. Medical Assistants perform office administrative
tasks that keep a medical office or clinic running smoothly. Graduates are
prepared to work in physicians' offices, clinics, nursing homes, and health
care centers as a medical secretary, medical assistant, medical receptionist,
or medical office manager.
The program provides clinical instruction, class lectures, and practical
experience through an externship in a medical facility. Clinical instruction
teaches students to prepare patients for examinations, give injections, conduct
electrocardiograms, and process routine laboratory tasks. Instruction also
covers office duties such as completing insurance forms, scheduling
appointments, billing, bookkeeping, and medical collections.

Medical Assistant /Limited X-Ray
The Limited X-ray Program, combined with the Medical Assistant Program,
provides a full scope of training in anatomy and physiology, office procedures,
clinical procedures, and limited X-ray services. Graduates of the combined
program work as Medical Assistants with expanded duties in radiography in
medical offices and clinics. Throughout the Limited X-Ray Program, students are
given the opportunity to practice skills in the energized X-Ray lab on campus,
as well as in an energized X-Ray lab in an actual office or clinic.

Medical Laboratory Technicians are trained in performing various laboratory
procedures and in determining the outcome of those tests and procedures. In
addition, Medical Laboratory Technicians are taught the various body systems in
relationship to tests and procedures that the technician will perform. Medical
Laboratory Technicians often work directly with patients, but may work in a
laboratory environment where little or no patient contact is required.
The Medical Laboratory Technician is a critical member in the delivery of
medical care, providing vital patient information to direct-care providers. The
Medical Laboratory Technician performs routine laboratory tests, provides
accurate processing and assessments, and assists the physician in determining
appropriate patient treatment plans.
Upon completion of classroom instruction, students will be monitored during
their first year of laboratory experience at an approved laboratory or health
care facility.

Medical Radiography
The mission of the Medical Radiography program at Apollo College is to develop
students into competent Radiologic Technologists who can assume entry level
positions in the field.
Consistent with its Mission, the Medical Radiography program has the following
goals:

Graduates will have the cognitive skills necessary to perform as entry-level
radiologic technologists. Cognitive skills consist of the information necessary
to practice as an entry-level professional.

Graduates will have the psychomotor skills needed to practice as entry-level
professionals. Psychomotor skills are the techniques required to apply
knowledge in clinical work.

Graduates will have the affective skills needed to practice as entry-level
professionals. Affective skills are the behaviors and attitudes that make a
professional who is worthy of the trust and confidence of peers, other health
care professionals and patients.

The Program will continually seek to improve its success in meeting its Mission
by reviewing outcomes including the completion rate of those who enroll, the
success of graduates in meeting professional credentialing requirements, and
the placement of graduates in jobs in the field.
The Registered Radiologic Technologist works in a wide variety of areas where
radiography is used to help diagnose trauma or disease. Some of these include;
trauma radiography in emergency rooms, fluoroscopic examinations in diagnostic
centers, portable radiography at the patient's bedside in the Intensive Care
Unit, and in Family Practice groups where Radiologic Technologists give care to
family members while helping to find the source of the patient's illness.
The Radiologic Technologist works under the guidance of the Radiologist, a
medical physician who specializes in Radiography. The Radiographic Technologist
correctly aligns the radiology equipment and positions the patient to achieve
the optimum diagnostic examination. The Radiologist then interprets the
findings and reports to the patient's physician. The Radiologic Technologist
has important responsibility for safely administering ionizing radiation to the
public. This is an integral part of the training in the Medical Radiography
Program.
The students in the Medical Radiography Program at Apollo College receive three
16 week semesters of classroom instruction that prepare them to do an
additional three semesters of clinical at facilities throughout the greater
Phoenix area. While at the clinical internship facility, the student is
monitored by a Clinical Instructor at the clinical site, as well as, by the
Clinical Director from the Medical Radiology Program. After the completion of
the two-year accredited program in Medical Radiography, the graduate takes a
national examination to become certified as a Registered Radiologic
Technologist.

Medical Receptionist
The Medical / Dental Receptionist Program teaches front office procedures for
medical and dental general practices, specialty practices, and clinics. This
program includes instruction in professional ethics, medical and dental
terminology, medical and dental insurance, use of office equipment, CPR
training, patient charting, and vital signs. The student also receives basic
training in computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, and
database management.
The program provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to work in
the front office of health care providers. Graduates of this program are
prepared for employment as a front office receptionist with duties that may
include, not only serving patients, but also records management and insurance
processing.
Upon completion of classroom instruction and practical training, students
perform learned skills during a 160-hour externship in a physician's office,
dentist's office, clinic, or other approved medical/dental care facility. The
externship phase of training provides students with the opportunity to practice
skills learned in the classroom environment and translate these skills to
application in an actual practice.

The mission of the Nursing Program at Apollo College is to develop highly
educated, knowledgeable, skill-oriented graduates who possess the necessary
behavior and attitudes to become entry-level Registered Nurses to serve the
needs of the community after completing state licensing requirements. A focus
of the program is to prepare graduates to successfully pass the National
Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses.
The Nursing Program is built upon a base of general education courses that will
give the nursing student critical thinking and mathematical skills as well as
perspectives from the humanities and social sciences. This base enables nursing
students to think critically, make decisions, gain independence, organize work,
take initiative, supervise others, be responsible employees and life-long
learners.
Instruction takes place on campus in classrooms, learning skills laboratory,
computer laboratory and at various hospitals and healthcare facilities in
greater Phoenix. Highly competent faculty, quality instruction, and first-rate
facilities together help prepare students for careers after graduation.
The program is open to those who have already completed prerequisite college
courses. Study at Apollo College requires four sixteen week semesters, totaling
sixty-four (64) weeks. With the prerequisite course the program is 71 semester
credits. Graduates of the Nursing Program will be awarded an Applied Science
Degree from Apollo College.
Pharmacy Technician
The Pharmacy Technician program at Apollo College provides the technical and
practical training to allow the graduate to work as an assistant to a licensed
pharmacist in both retail and hospital settings. The program provides the
student with extensive knowledge in pharmaceutical and medical terminology,
abbreviations and symbols used in prescribing, dispensing and charting of
medications and a working knowledge of drug trade and generic names as well as
strengths, dosages, dosage forms and routes of administration. Administrative
skills and law and ethics are also emphasized. Reading comprehension, pharmacy
mathematics, use of the calculator, and good verbal and written communication
skills are functionally taught throughout the course. Upon completion of all
classroom instruction and practical training, students perform learned skills
during a 260-hour externship in a hospital, retail pharmacy, or pharmaceutical
distributor.

Physical Therapy Technician
Physical Therapy Technician assists the Physical Therapist in helping patients
recover from illnesses and injuries. They assist in the physical therapy
treatment plan for patients in order to restore muscle function, relieve pain,
and prevent disability following disease, injury, or loss of body parts. A
Physical Therapy Technician may aid in a therapy treatment program that may
include exercise, electrical stimulation, ultrasound and massage therapy. They
also instruct and motivate patients in isometric and ambulatory exercises.
They may also work with other patients to overcome the emotional and physical
barriers that may hinder recovery.
Most Physical Therapy Technicians work in hospitals, rehabilitation centers,
clinics, physician offices, nursing homes, home health agencies, adult day care
programs, schools, wellness and community centers, and in private industry.
Graduates may also choose to train and test as Personal Trainers, opening many
doors for successful careers in Fitness.

Respiratory Therapist
The Respiratory Therapist applies scientific knowledge and theory to practical
clinical problems of respiratory care. The Respiratory Therapist is qualified
to assume primary responsibility for all respiratory care treatments, including
the supervision of Respiratory Therapy Technicians. Under the supervision of a
physician, the Respiratory Therapist may be required to exercise considerable
independent clinical judgment in the care of respiratory patients.
At Apollo College, the knowledge and skills needed by respiratory therapists
are taught through formal lecture, laboratory, and clinical instruction. The
program is designed to train entry level respiratory therapists who meet
nationally accepted standards for practitioners in the field. Consequently, in
order to meet this standard, students must not only fulfill all the program's
course work and clinical practice requirements, but must also:

Pass the secured certified Respiratory Therapist exam prior to going on
clinical practice assignments, and

Pass the secured registry written examination prior to graduation.
Admission to the Respiratory Therapist program requires:

The Veterinary Assistant Program is intended to train individuals to gain
knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform in a veterinary office.
The student will learn to provide nursing for animals under the direction of
the veterinarian. Students will learn all aspects of assisting in the operation
of a veterinary practice. They will learn the basics of first aid, anatomy,
routine care, emergency care, surgical preparation and basic nursing
techniques. They will learn how animals communicate, animal behavior, training,
breeding and the life cycles of young, adult, and old animals. Students will
learn teamwork and how to communicate in the veterinary office.
The objective of the Veterinary Assistant program is to develop students skills
to assist Veterinarians at an entry-level position to treat illness, ease
discomfort, cure diseases, mend injuries, improve nutrition, increase the
